Microsoft's .net has grown considerable over the past few years with more and more webmaster choosing it as the language of choice. Microsoft have tried to take the complexity out of programming.
Microsoft have built the .net package so it can be run on and offline through web applications or stand alone applications on an end users desktop making it a popular choice for webmaster and programmers.
Another contributory factor to the growth of .net has been the ability to run ASP c# vb.net and Jscript.net as an intograted application.
But does it have any advantages over the good old Perl or PHP and if so does it warrant learning a completely new language?
This is where it all comes down to opinion and experience. Some of the dedicate die hard Linux fans will insist on running the Linux friendly languages in the defense that they can be run on any os, while, on the other hand, Microsft fans will learn the language trusting in the big name and have appreciated the recent emulators allowing for scripting of .net applications on systems other than windows.
As for my opinion, I have heard many people rave about the ease of .net and how useful it is to read and modify a Microsoft access database, I have not found it so.
I found it hard to grasp the languages syntax. Personal, I found Perl a much more friendly language over the .net experience.
