This issue is regarding operating system choice. This really depends on what you are looking to do with the box and so I will comment accordingly.
The average user who has a computer to occasionally check their email, do a little online banking will obviously prefer windows. Windows provides a very friendly GUI with helpful wizards etc.
This is excellent for the non computer literate. It has excellent plug and play compatibility features and with its huge grip on the market, you won't find something that is compatible with it!
It does have its limits though. The more computer literate that are looking for something a little more technical have several choice; Linux and its *nix variations, FreeBSD, Solaris and RISC. It comes down to personal preference as to which you choice for the list previous.
These operating systems provide more reliability, more features, added security and generally run fast than windows when they are not running and annoying wizards!
