In this issue, we are discussing the advantages and disadvantages of the top merchant accounts whether you accept credit cards through your e-commerce site, or just by the occasional item from e-bay, we will advise you on the best account to suit your needs. Paypal, authorize.net and 2checkout are the three biggest. Paypal's growth can be put down to it's being owned by the company that owns ebay. They provide both sites of the market, people are attracted to ebay looking to purchase items and ebay provide a quick and easy way to transfer the money and accept credit cards online. Its great features include free instant setup and low processing fees. It has a nice member area with lots of features. I feel it is let down by it's somewhat lack of professionalism. This maybe down to its lack of IPN possibilities, causing larger companies, including e-commerce sites, to look else where for those merchant accounts that provide a little more flexibility. Authorize.net is a very trusted processor in the e-commerce industry and is usually the first choice. I myself have not had much experience with this processor but it seems the weapon of choice for the serious business. 2Checkout, again, similar to paypal with a few more features and added flexibility but comes with a setup fee. Not bad for the extras that come with it so this price is somewhat justified. My favorite part of 2checkout is the ability to accept credit cards from countries that paypal does not, meaning more revenue for you. Definitely popular with the hosts this one.
